Flood considers legal action against Kennedy

Updated: 15:22, Thursday, 12 December 2002

The Flood Tribunal is to consider taking further legal action against businessman Jim Kennedy after he failed to turn up to give evidence today.

Mr Kennedy, who now lives in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, was summonsed to appear before the Tribunal after refusing to attend voluntarily.

The Tribunal is investigating claims by former Government press secretary Frank Dunlop that Mr Kennedy hired him to bribe councillors to rezone his land in Carrickmines in South Dublin in the 1990s.

Mr Kennedy has denied any involvement.

The Chairman of the Tribunal said Mr Kennedy was clearly not co-operating with the inquiry and was breaking the law as it applied to this country.

Mr Justice Feargus Flood said the Tribunal would now consider what, if any, further steps could be taken.
