Talks on new partnership agreement

Updated: 22:13, Monday, 9 December 2002

High level delegations from employers' bodies and the trade unions have been meeting Government officials in an attempt to clarify the prospects of a new partnership agreement.

The contacts are an attempt to break the deadlock on pay between the conflicting expectations of workers and employers.

The Irish Congress of Trade Union's executive council meets tomorrow to consider its position on entering new talks.

However, so far union sources are pessimistic, saying the Budget was a setback to the chances of a new agreement.
