Several hundred anti-war protestors have taken to the streets of Dublin calling on America and Britain not to launch any attacks on Iraq.

The protestors had planned to march up pedestrianised Grafton Street on their way to a rally.

However, gardai refused to let them through, saying it was for public safety reasons.

The protestors later staged a rally near the US Embassy.

The event passed off peacefully.
