129 died in siege
Eight people who were held by Chechen rebels in a Moscow theatre are seeking compensation from the Courts for their ordeal.
The plaintiffs, who also include victims' families, are demanding payments of up to €1m each. 129 hostages died in the siege at the theatre in October.
Most of them were victims of the effects of an opiate gas that Russia special forces pumped into the theatre to subdue the Chechen hostage-takers.
The mayor of Moscow is outraged by the landmark compensation claim, saying all victims have been given material help and any further demands are illegal.
If the lawsuit is successful, it may open the floodgates for further claims from hundreds of victims of acts of terror in Russia.
