The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has confirmed that three Closure Orders and three Improvement Orders were served on food premises during the month of November. The Closure Orders were served on a pub in Wexford and on two premises, a take-away and a pub, in Galway.
Improvement Orders were served on one take-away in Dublin and two restaurants/take-aways in Dublin and in Cork.
Closure Orders are served when it is deemed, upon inspection, that there is, or is likely to be, a grave and immediate danger to public health.
Two of the three Closure Orders were served by the Western Health Board on Foley's Bistro Incorporating Burger Express, Portumna, Co Galway and on Tony's Tavern, Loughrea, Co Galway. The third Closure Order was served by the South Eastern Health Board on The Sawdust Bar, The Ballagh, Co Wexford.
The Improvement Orders were served on Canton City Chinese Restaurant and Take-away, Carrigaline, Co Cork, on China-Link Take Away, Swords, Co Dublin and on San Lorenzo Café, Dublin.
So far this year, enforcement officers working for the FSAI have served 32 Closure Orders, 18 Improvement Orders and 8 Prohibition Orders on food businesses throughout the country.
Dr Patrick Wall, CEO of the FSAI, said the majority of food businesses are doing their best to maintain high standards; however, a small number who disregard the law are bringing adverse publicity on an entire sector.
He said consumers need to be confident that businesses are doing everything reasonable to produce safe food and are putting their customers' health before profit.
