The figures are contained in the Board's annual report, which was published today. They also reveal that the number of those treated at the centre increased by 18% last year.
The Drug Treatment Centre is the largest provider of specialist drug treatment services in Ireland, managing over 96,000 client visits each year.
Figures from the Board's report show that an extra 211 clients were treated for heroin addiction last year.
It also revealed that 111 young adults received treatment for drug abuse and that the number of unreferred or walk-in visits to the centre was up by 388.
Speaking at the launch of the report, General manager of the Board, Sheila Heffernan said that they had noted an increase in the number of requests for testing of young people in schools and by employers.
Ms Heffernan said they plan to introduce specialised training early next year to meet this demand.
