The Norwegian capital, Oslo, is hosting an international conference aimed at raising money to help Sri Lanka to rebuild itself after nearly two decades of civil war.
Delegates from 20 countries are due to attend the donor conference where pledges will include help with the clearing of two million landmines.
Sri Lankan analysts estimate that more than $500m is needed, although the government has not given a figure or an estimate of its own.
The expectation is not only for aid, but also for investment to provide jobs and to create stable economic conditions in the war-torn areas.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister, Jan Petersen, said progress had already been achieved but more was needed.
