Actor James Coburn dies aged 74

The actor James Coburn, who appeared in more than 80 films, has died.

Coburn, who was 74, died of a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles.

He appeared in several classic films including The Magnificent Seven, Our Man Flint and The Great Escape.

In 1998 he was awarded an Oscar for Best supporting Actor for his performance as an abusive father in Affliction, directed by Paul Schrader.

More recently, he appeared in Young Guns 2, The Nutty Professor, Maverick, Payback and Eraser, and lent his voice to last year's Monsters Inc.
