Britain's Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has begun an investigation into a radiation leak at a nuclear reprocessing plant in the north of Scotland.

It has been revealed that 20 workers at the Dounreay plant in Caithness were contaminated with radioactive particles.

A UKAEA spokesperson said there was no serious risk to their health and no radioactive release to the environment.

The leader of the Scottish National Party, John Swinney, said the leak was a matter of enormous concern and called for full disclosure of what went wrong.
