The Cabinet has agreed to extend electronic voting throughout the State for the Local and European elections in 2004.
This follows the use of electronic voting in three constituencies in the general election, and seven in the recent Referendum on the Nice Treaty.
The estimated cost of introducing the system nation-wide is €33m, although there will be savings in staff costs to balance against this, according to Government sources.
