Alan Higgins 17-year-old fatally stabbed at weekend
Three teenagers have appeared before the Children's Court charged in connection with the death of 17-year-old Alan Higgins who was stabbed to death in Dublin at the weekend.
A 15-year-old was charged with manslaughter, while two 16-year-olds were charged with robbery early this morning. Each made no reply to the charges.
Judge James McDonnell remanded all three on continuing bail and ordered them to sign on every day at Coolock Garda Station.
He also imposed a curfew on the teenagers, ordering them not to leave their homes between 10pm and 7am.
Judge McDonnell ordered the media not to publish anything that might identify the teenagers and directed photographers not to take pictures at the court, or on the surrounding roads and streets.
Unprecedented response
Gardaí say they received an unprecedented response to their appeals for information.
They attempted to arrest a 15-year-old boy at around 6pm yesterday. He eluded them but arrived later at Coolock Garda Station, accompanied by his father and a solicitor.
The two 16-year-olds also came to the station with their parents and all three were questioned last night about the fatal stabbing of Alan Higgins.
Detectives believe Alan's mobile phone was stolen, then he was knocked to the ground and stabbed twice in the chest.
Supt Noel McLoughlin thanked the public for its response to the appeals. He said Gardaí were investigating eight incidents where young people were attacked and had their mobile phones stolen at the same place where Alan Higgins was killed.
