Gardaí in Coolock say they are looking for a group of up to eight young people who may have been involved in the attack in which a Dublin youth was stabbed to death.

17-year-old Alan Higgins was stabbed twice after he left the cinema in Coolock. Detectives say the motive was robbery. The gang wanted to steal his mobile phone.

The Gardaí say they believe the gang, which included boys and girls, have attacked and robbed other young people in the same area.

They are appealing to other victims who may not have reported these attacks or local people who may know these young people but are afraid to talk to come forward and speak to them in confidence.

Alan Higgins was a model student who battled leukaemia and heart problems as a child.

Meanwhile, a second person stabbed to death in Dublin over the weekend has been named as 32-year-old Joseph Sutcliffe, a former All-Ireland champion boxer.

Detectives in Kevin Street say they are following a number of lines of inquiry but are still appealing for people who were in the Fatima Mansions area between midnight and 3am yesterday morning to come forward.
