Gainsborough's 'Madame Baccelli' and Bernardo Bellotto's 'View of Florence' were recovered by detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Gardaí's Arts and Antiquities unit in a house in South Dublin today.

They were stolen on 26 June last year after two cars rammed the front door of Russborough House. At least two armed men were involved in the theft.

Gardaí say the paintings are in good condition but that they are not in their frames.

The paintings have been taken to the National Gallery for examination.
