US President, George W Bush's National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice, has accused Iraq of helping the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

In a television interview, Miss Rice said Iraq's contacts with the organisation went back a long time.

She added that President Saddam Hussein's regime had given al-Qaeda training in the use of chemical weapons.

It is the first time the Bush administration has given details of its assertion that Iraq has been working with al-Qaeda.
