USI members barricade themselves in at Dept of Education
Seven students who barricaded themselves inside the boardroom of the Department of Education in Dublin this morning, have been removed by Gardaí.
Earlier, a spokesman for the group said representatives from Trinity College, UCD, DIT and Maynooth were involved in the sit in.
He had said they would remain in the building until the Minister for Education agreed to meet them and until he gave a commitment to implement the recommendations of an official report on access to Higher Education.
The spokesman claimed that the report called for the extension of grants and free access to third level colleges.
The Minister for Education, Noel Dempsey, is accompanying President Mary McAleese on a week long visit to Thailand and Malaysia.
