Four members of an Irish environmental group have been charged with public order offences after they chained themselves together on the roof of the visitors' centre at the Sellafield nuclear plant in Cumbria.

The group, Gluaiseacht, said members had taken the action to coincide with the return of a shipment of radioactive material to Sellafield through Irish waters, after it was rejected by Japan.

The four, three men and a woman, were released on bail and are due before Whitehaven Magistrates Court in nine days' time.
