SIPTU is opposing moves to make 169 temporary clerical workers redundant as part of a €1 million budget cut demanded by the Department of Health.
The union welcomed the re-instatement of the hospital porters and domestic attendants and said it is to have further talks with the Board on Monday.
Regional Secretary, Joe Cunningham, said they believed progress had been made at today's meeting because the Board has also agreed to look at all other ways of making the cost savings.
Meanwhile the South Eastern Health Board has given details of savings of €850,000 it plans to make in the current year.
In a statement released by the Health Board this evening the acting CEO, John Magner, said that following a Government decision, the Department of Health and Children directed the Health Board to generate the necessary savings from the non-filling of 60 management and administrative posts in 2002.
In order to comply with this directive and to achieve minimum impact on patient services the Health Board has decided to delay the filling of a number of positions in Management Support, Community Support Services and IT.
The Health Board said this evening that the corrective measures being taken will not have any impact on current jobs or direct patient services such as A&E and clinics.
