New PSNI chief holds talks with Blair

The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and the North's Chief Constable, Hugh Orde, have discussed security developments at a meeting in Downing Street.

It is understood Mr Orde called for extra detectives and requested that the full-time reserve be retained until further notice.

Mr Blair said afterwards that Mr Orde would have the resources he needed to carry out the job. It was the first meeting between the two men.
