The British Parliament is to be recalled from its summer recess to discuss the crisis over Iraq.

The request was made by the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who had been under growing pressure to allow MPs to debate possible military action.

The one day Commons debate on Iraq will be held later this month although the date has not yet been finalised.

The recall will give MPs from all sides of the House the chance to hear Mr Blair's arguments for going to war to stop Saddam Hussein developing and using weapons of mass destruction.

It is anticipated that Mr Blair will by then have published his long awaited dossier of information on what has been going on inside Iraq since weapons inspectors left four years ago.

However Mr Blair's unlikely to see MPs views as tying his hands. Downing Street has been making it clear there'll be no vote at the end of the debate
