Al-Jazeera television says it has obtained a videotape which apparently shows some of the 11 September suicide hijackers studying flight manuals.

The Qatar-based channel showed one of the alleged hijackers, identified as Abdul-Aziz al-Omari, praising al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

He said: "This is a message to America to make it leave ... and stop supporting Israel."

The footage showed somebody looking at a map and pointing to the Pentagon. It also identified four men on the video as being 11 September hijackers.

The channel said the tape had been recorded in Kandahar, Afghanistan but it did not say when or how it was obtained.

Northern Alliance leader death commemoratedIn a separate development, thousands of people gathered today in a sports stadium in the Afghan capital, Kabul, to commemorate the death of the Northern Alliance leader Ahmad Shah Masood.

Mr Masood, who had led the Northern Alliance in their struggle against the former Taliban regime, was assassinated a year ago today by suspected al-Qaeda members posing as journalists.

Afghanistan's current president, Hamid Karzai, who last week survived an attempt on his life, did not attend the ceremony.

Mr Karzai is travelling to New York where he will address the United Nations Security Council in the coming days.
