Returning Irish largest group of immigrants

The Central Statistics Office has estimated that the rate of population growth here has continued to increas in the past year.

The Central Statistics Office has estimated that the rate of population growth here has continued to increase in the past year.

Estimates from the CSO were in line with the early census results released recently. In the 12 months up to April, the number of immigrants was 47,500, while emigration was down to 18,800.

The largest single group of immigrants was returning Irish, at 35%, and immigrants (including those) from outside the EU or USA made up 46% of the total.
