A Swedish court has ordered that a Swede accused of planning a hijack and other serious crimes, be detained for two weeks while police continue their investigations.

The court granted a request by prosecutors to remand Kerim Sadok Chatty in custody for two weeks.

The 29-year-old, who has a Tunisian father, was arrested at a small airport near Stockholm on Thursday as he tried to board a Ryanair flight to Stansted. A gun was found in his luggage.

Inquiries are continuing to establish whether Chatty has any links to Osama bin-Laden's al Qaeda network.

A police spokesman had said earlier that initial investigations had shown that Mr Chatty was planning a crime unprecedented in its seriousness in Sweden.
