Protest by farmers over price of grain

Updated: 14:34, Saturday, 31 August 2002

A crowd of between 300 and 400 grain farmers gathered in Drogheda, County Louth, today in protest at the price of grain.

The farmers demonstrated at Drogheda Port where a ship carrying 3,000 tonnes of wheat had docked.

The IFA members contend that imports of grain are destroying their livelihoods and affecting prices.

Farmers from counties Cork, Wexford, Wicklow, Louth and Meath attended the protest.
