A fresh appeal has been made for the mother of a murdered baby, named Carrie by the PSNI, to come forward.

The call was made at the inter-denominational funeral of the child in East Belfast this morning.

The infant's body was found wrapped in a black plastic bag five months ago in a lane way at Carryduff, County Down, by a group of children playing near Lough Moss leisure centre.

There have been a number of appeals for the mother to come forward and police last week took the unprecedented step of issuing an artist's impression of the newborn.

Women in the Carryduff area a few miles from Belfast have also been asked by police to give DNA samples to help in the investigation.
