A Nigerian man is to be stoned to death after he refused to appeal his conviction by an Islamic court of the rape of a nine-year-old girl.
A government spokesman said that the 54-year-old man had confessed to the crime and refused an offer to allow him to appeal the sentence imposed under the strict Sharia legal code.
Last week, an Islamic court rejected an appeal by a Nigerian woman who has been sentenced to be stoned to death for adultery.
The country's Justice Minister has since come out and said he is totally opposed to the court's decision.
