Musharraf warns of al-Qaeda regrouping

The Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, has warned that al-Qaeda may be re-grouping in Afghanistan because of the weakness of the Afghan government.

Mr Musharraf said the failure of US-led forces and the new administration in Kabul to establish control outside the capital meant conditions were favourable for the Islamic militant network to re-emerge.

The Pakistani President also said it was likely that rogue Islamic militants were still crossing the Line of Control dividing Indian and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
