Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, Murder inquiry continues
Police in Cambridgeshire earlier said that they are certain as they can possibly be that the bodies found near Lakenheath in Suffolk are those of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
They said formal identification may take some time. Deputy Chief Constable Keith Hoddy said Holly and Jessica's families had been told the terrible news.
Mr Hoddy read short statements from each of the girls' parents. Jessica's mother and father, Sharon and Lelsey Chapman, said they wanted to thank everyone for their kindness and support during a tense and traumatic time.
Holly Wells' parents, Nicola and Kevin, said they were still numb after losing their gorgeous daughter.
Mr Hoddy also thanked the media for the part they had played in the hunt for the girls, but he said it may now be an appropriate time for all media to withdraw from the community to allow it to come to terms with its loss.
Earlier, a British Home Office pathologist completed a preliminary examination of the two bodies. The bodies are now to be removed to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
Meanwhile, Ian Huntley and his girlfriend Maxine Carr are still being questioned on suspicion of murder. Police were earlier granted a further 36 hours to question them
