Call for EC involvement in row over M50 route

Updated: 21:56, Friday, 16 August 2002

The environmental agency, An Taisce, has called for the European Commission to become involved in a row over the proposed route of the last piece of the M50 motorway in south county Dublin.

It has expressed serious concern about the impact the construction programme would have on a medieval site at Carrickmines.

The excavation is being shut down in two weeks.

Even though the architectural work is not complete, the heritage service, Duchas, says the deadline should not be extended.
