George Best
stable after liver transplant
George Best is said to be in a stable condition in a London hospital after undergoing a liver transplant operation that was completed last night.
Doctors said they are very pleased with the progress being made by the former Manchester United and Northern Ireland footballer.
He has been taken off his ventilator, and has spoken to his family and one of his doctors.
Best was placed on the transplant waiting list nine months ago after doctors warned his liver had been permanently damaged by years of alcohol abuse.
His consultant physician, Professor Roger Williams, said the operation had been difficult but his prospects were good.
