Pakistani president arrives in Bangladesh

The Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, has arrived in Bangladesh on his first official visit there.

The trip is intended to strengthen trade and cultural links between the countries.

However, the legacy of its bloody war of independence is expected to dominate the proceedings.

President Musharraf will visit the memorial in honour of an estimated 3 million Bangladeshis who died in the war leading to Bangladeshi independence in 1971.

War veterans have been calling for a formal apology from Pakistan for atrocities committed during the war.

Pakistan has already made compensation payments.
