The Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, has said he intends to be a candidate in Palestinian presidential elections next January.
Yasser Arafat, Intends to stand in elections
Speaking on Egyptian television, Mr Arafat said he would stand in the elections if he was asked.
It is the first time he has said he intends to be a candidate since the US President, George W Bush, indicated that the United States wants him removed from power.
