Nurses' strike, Dispute over rosters
50 members of the Psychiatric Nurses' Association began picketing at St Columba's psychiatric hospital and St John's hospital at 8.00am.
Spokesman Des Kavanagh said that this was the first of a series of one-day strikes over rosters which members believe are unprofessional, un-family-friendly and unsafe.
Mr Kavanagh added that an eleventh hour proposal on a new roster, which was made by management, was too little too late.
He said that the decision to strike was made at a PNA meeting late last night and was a reflection of the sense of frustration and anger felt by members.
