The Taoiseach and the North's First Minister David Trimble met today for private talks on the margins of the North South Ministerial council meeting in Armagh.

Mr Trimble is seeking to have sanctions imposed on Sinn Féin for what he believes are breaches of the IRA ceasefire in Colombia and Belfast.

The two will meet again together with the British Prime Minister for formal talks at Hillsborough next Thursday.

The First Minister cited paramilitary violence as the sole reason for next week's talks.
