Sir John Stevens
has delayed report
The Stevens report on collusion between elements within the RUC and Loyalist murder gangs in the North is to be delayed until the autumn.
The decision was announced this evening by the Metropolitan police.
The head of the Stevens inquiry Sir John Stevens said in a statement this evening the delay was because he and his team wanted to be absolutely thorough in their investigation.
It had been anticipated that the report would be given to the North's policing board in the coming weeks.
The new PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde who was in charge of the Stevens inquiry on a day to day basis has also stepped down from his position within the Stevens inquiry team. Mr Orde will not be replaced directly.
