Households to receive iodine tablets

Updated: 15:31, Monday, 17 June 2002

The Department of Health has confirmed that iodine tablets will be sent to every household in the country over the next three weeks.

The tablets are part of the National Emergency Plan for nuclear accidents. Each pack will contain enough tablets for four or five people and will be in an orange box and clearly labelled.

The Department of Health said that they are designed for human consumption and are not dangerous in themselves, but the same care should be taken with them as with any other medicine.
