The planned re-opening of Tara Mines this month, which employs 500 people, has been deferred until September because of low market prices for zinc.

The company said that the implementation of its improvement programme, which started in March, would be extended by another month until the end of July.

It said that this time would be used to enhance the viability of the operation further; the company said it expected the market for zinc would get back into balance towards the end of the year.
