Fine Gael's new leader, Enda Kenny, has said he intends to hold a series of nationwide meetings with the party membership. The Mayo TD is bidding to establish the party's niche in the political landscape.
Admitting that the party faced an "uphill struggle", Mr Kenny said he was encouraged by the number of younger deputies that were returned to the Dáil. He said that he would give those deputies a leading role in the campaign to attract new support to the party.
