Irish soccer fans have been celebrating their team's 1-1 draw with Cameroon in their opening match of the World Cup tournament.

Commentators agreed that the result was a good one for Ireland in the aftermath of the difficulties over the departure of Roy Keane.

The manager, Mick McCarthy, said he was pleased with the game, which he described as "a great advertisement for football".

Ireland were trailing 1-0 at half time after a goal by Patrick Mboma, but Matt Holland equalised during a much-improved second half Irish performance.

Ireland's next match is against Germany next Wednesday.
