It has been confirmed by RTE that Roy Keane's agent, Michael Kennedy, has been in contact with players in Japan as well as with Keane regarding the controversy surrounding the Republic's former team captain. It is also understood that Keane has been more conciliatory in an interview to be published tomorrow in an English newspaper.

Roy Keane has reportedly said he does not feel an ounce of guilt for his part in the row that led to his expulsion from the Republic of Ireland World Cup squad.

In an interview with the Ireland on Sunday newspaper, the former Republic of Ireland captain said he believed it was up to others to apologise. He said he would return to Ireland next week and walk down the main street in Cork with his head held high.

Keane claimed that during the team meeting which led to his expulsion, McCarthy had accused him of faking injury to miss squads and of letting the country down. "I have nothing to be ashamed of, " Keane told the newspaper, before adding that he would only play for the Republic again if McCarthy was no longer in charge.
