The Japanese pharmaceuticals company Takeda is to invest E80m in building a new facility in Clondalkin, West Dublin. The company already employ 100 people at a plant in Bray.
This investment by Takeda will see the company build its first ever bulk plant outside Japan. Bulk plants manufacture the raw chemical material for drugs and the plant at Clondalkin will develop active ingredients for diabetes treatments.
The E80m investment is expected to create over 60 jobs, with most of these at graduate level. The plant will be built on a 20 acre site and production is expected to start in early 2004.
The Takeda plant will form part of a cluster of biotechnology companies which the IDA hope to attract to the West Dublin area.
