The Green Party pledged to radically improve life in Dublin today, at the launch of its Dublin manifesto. The party made a commitment to available and affordable housing, rent controls, separated waste collections for all households, and a public transport system that would shave hours, rather than just minutes off commuting times every week.

The Green Party is running 12 candidates in Dublin. Cllr Ciaran Cuffe, candidate for Dun Laoghaire, said that the housing crisis was the greatest threat to the economic, social and environmental development of the City.

He also pledged to put children at the centre of all development plans for the city, with proposals to ease the burden of childcare and to ensure that every neighbourhood has a play area. Paul Gogarty, candidate for Dublin Midwest said there would be no playground for Bertie Ahern, with a resounding commitment to oppose the Bertie Bowl.

Instead the party wants one of the existing stadiums to be upgraded and additional finance to be put into local sports and recreational facilities, including a new Park along the Liffey Valley.

John Gormley, candidate for Dublin Southeast outlined that the party would tackle waste as a priority towards cleaning up the city. He stressed that the Party was opposed to plans to build an Incinerator at Ringsend and outlined proposals to establish a semi-state recycling business, part of which could be responsible for managing the recently closed Ardagh Glass/Irish Glass Bottle Company.
