Annan disbands Jenin investigation teamFriday 03 May 2002 13.45
The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, has disbanded the UN's fact-finding team which was formed to establish the circumstances surrounding the Israeli military assault on the Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin.
The decision came after Israel refused to co-operate with the mission.
However, the international pressure group, Human Rights Watch, has published its own report on the operation. It found that there was no massacre as the Palestinians had claimed; but it did accuse the Israeli army of committing war crimes.
The group said that a number of civilians had been killed, wilfully and unlawfully.
