watch

The Progressive Democrats have officially begun their election campaign in Prosperous, County Kildare. Speaking at the campaign launch, the party leader Mary Harney said that maintaining full employment was her party's priority and that to increase employment, taxes must be kept low.

She predicted that the party would get eight seats in the election and said that the Bobby Molloy issue was not a factor on the doorsteps.

The party's candidate in Longford/Roscommon, Councillor Mae Sexton, said that if returned to power, the party would fund the provision of 40,000 new childcare places and would increase grants for community facilities. She said that they would also continue to increase child benefit.
