It has been announced that ITV Digital is to be sold as a going concern. Administrators Deloitte and Touche said it had not been possible to restructure the cost base of the company.
The move came as ITV Digital said it could not afford to pay the English Football League the remaining stg£178m it owes on its three-year contract to show Nationwide League games.
The British government's Media and Sport Secretary, Tessa Jowell, said that some football clubs will face "tough times".
Football League chief executive David Burns said this had been expected, but insisted the clubs would continue to push for the all the money owed to them by ITV Digital.
