A man has been arrested in Germany for alleged involvement in an explosion at a synagogue in Tunisia in which 16 people were killed. Ten German tourists were among those who died in the blast on the island of Djerba last Thursday.

The German authorities said the man, who was detained in the city of Karlsruhe, was believed to have had contact with an attacker in Tunisia. The German authorities believe the explosion was a deliberate attack rather than an accident, as the Tunisian government insists.

Yesterday, an Arabic-language newspaper published in London said Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network had claimed responsibility for the blast.
