A new MRBI poll of the Sligo-Leitrim constituency shows Independent Marian Harkin topping the poll and taking a seat at the likely expense of Fine Gael. A TG4 poll carried out last December also showed Ms Harkin being elected. However, at that stage it appeared she would take a Fianna Fáil seat.

The latest poll, carried out for the relaunch of the Sligo Weekender, shows Ms Harkin's share of first preferences up 2% on her December showing to 23%. The two Fine Gael candidates, John Perry and Gerry Reynolds, have seen their share of first preferences drop while Fianna Fáil's support has grown by 5%.

The Weekender's analysis is that Marian Harkin (Ind), John Perry (FG) and John Ellis (FF) will take the first three seats, with Dr Jimmy Devins most likely to take the fourth seat. It shows sitting Leitrim TD Gerry Reynolds (FG) losing his seat.
