Church attack,Pakistan has promised more security
The Pakistani authorities have ordered increased security for churches following today's grenade attack on a church in Islamabad.
Five people, including the wife and daughter of a US diplomat, were killed when a man entered the Protestant church in the city's tightly-guarded diplomatic enclave and hurled up to eight grenades into the congregation.
Forty-six other worshippers, including at least least three children, were among those injured in the attack. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the incident, but interior secretary Tasneem Noorani said it was widely believed linked to the "geo-political regional situation".
Sectarian killings in Pakistan are mostly between majority Sunni and minority Shiite Muslims and attacks targeting Christians are rare. However, 16 Pakistani Christians were killed in a massacre at a church in Bahawalpur, Punjab province, in October in an attack blamed on Sunni Muslim extremists.
Security was tightened at churches following the massacre and a policeman was posted at the Islamabad Protestant church at the time of today's attack.
