Gardaí investigating a so-called vigilante attack in which a man was abducted and beaten in Kerry last December have arrested a man in his mid 40s. The man was arrested in Tralee this morning and is being held at Killarney Garda Station.

In the past week, eight arrests have been made in connection with the abduction and beating. Sinn Féin's Director of Elections in North Kerry was arrested in connection with the same investigation last Friday.

James Sheehan has denied any involvement. No charges have been made in connection with the investigation.

The Gardaí are investigating the abduction and beating of a man near Castleisland on 7 December. In an interview with The Kerryman newspaper days later, the abduction was claimed by the self-styled Concerned Parents Against Drugs group in Kerry.
