Reports from London suggest that the IRA is set to announce the decommissioning of a second batch of weapons to help advance the Northern peace process.

The London Times newspaper, quoting what it refers to as well-placed sources, says the follow-up to last October's action - to put beyond use an unspecified number of firearms - had either already happened, or was imminent.

Meanwhile, the Sun newspaper has suggested that the British Prime Minister Tony Blair is also about to make a significant announcement concerning the peace process - namely, a possible amnesty for IRA members on the run or facing extradition.

The paper said the announcement could symbolically be made around Easter. It also suggested a possible amnesty could include any British soldiers who might face charges over Bloody Sunday in 1972, but would exclude Real IRA members who carried out the Omagh bombing in 1998.
