The US ambassador in Pakistan has held talks with President Pervez Musharraf about the possible extradition of Sheikh Omar.

The US ambassador in Pakistan has held talks with President Pervez Musharraf about the possible extradition of Sheikh Omar. Omar is the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder of US reporter Daniel Pearl.

Yesterday, Sheikh Omar was remanded in custody for two weeks by a Pakistani court for his role in the kidnapping. In his last court appearance, the British-born militant admitted that he was involved in the kidnapping of the Wall Street Journal correspondent.

There was no indication afterwards of the response ambassador Wendy Chamberlin was given. A Pakistani official confirmed extradition was discussed at the 40-minute meeting and declined to say how Musharraf replied.

Although no official extradition treaty exists between the US and Pakistan, Musharraf's country has extradited two suspected terrorists wanted by the United States.
